Derby
Participant and Derby Rules
Date: Sunday, September 21, 2008
Show Time: 6:30 pm
Personal
Safety and Derby Rules
- Driver
must be 18 years or older (must show proof of age)
- Drivers
must wear seat belts and helmets.
- Driver
and crew must wear long pants and long sleeve shirts - no
shorts, tank tops or muscle shirts.
- Must
have minimum 5 lb. fire extinguisher secured in the cab area
& accessible to the driver.
- All
combines to be inspected by derby officials between 1:00 pm and
5:00 pm.
- All
decisions of the officials are final.
- Only
driver and 4 individuals in pit crew will receive free
admission.
- Drivers
are responsible for the actions of their pit crew.
- No
pit racing, no alcohol or drugs allowed on the Fairgrounds
including pit area.
- No
direct hits to the drivers area of the combine.
- No
hits when combine is out of bounds.
- Driver
must make contact with another machine within 3 minutes or be
disqualified.
- No
2 way radio contact with driver.
- Drivers
and crew must sign insurance waiver.
- All
motion will be halted in case of fire or emergency.
- Driver
must stop machine upon lifting another machine off its wheels to
prevent roll over.
- Flag
must be broken off when signaled by officials.
- Machine
must have number on at least 2 sides of machines no less than
16 tall.
- Checks
will be mailed to participants when the machine is removed from
property/storage area.
- No
machine to be left on grounds on Sunday. Machines may be parked
at an off-site location for pickup on Monday & must be
removed within 24 hours of derby by the participant.
- Drivers
meeting will be held at 6:00 pm at announcers stand next to the
stage.
Combine Regulations
- Any
size 2wd combine allowed.
- Must
use Grain Table and no Corn Heads allowed.
- Table must be fixed
18 above ground and hydraulic hoses disconnected. Head must
remain on the machine or will be disqualified.
- Must
have grain table reinforced from feeder housing to the back of
grain table with maximum of 2 pieces of 3 ½ x 3/8 angle
iron.
- Must
have auger, combine ladder, fins on straw chopper and reel arms
removed.
- Separator
must be inoperable (must remove belts).
- Fuel
tank must be mounted in grain tank. Maximum size of 6 gallons.
- Combine must have cab
with glass removed and door welded or chained shut.
If you do not have a cab, make a cab from 2 pipe and
cover with steel cattle paneling or similar covering material to
protect driver.
- No headlights or tail
lights on unit.
- Cab
must have safety bars welded at least 36 from floor of cab on
the front and sides.
- No
reinforcement of rear axle. No added shields to protect
transmission belts, wheels or tires.
- Stock
tires to be used with air only in tires; no fluids & no
duals.
- No
additional weight to be added to machine.
- No
offensive language or pictures permitted on combine.
Pay-Out
Entry Fee: $20.00 (Non-Refundable)
$270.00 paid for each participating combine
(includes return of $20.00 entry fee)
Heat
Purse: 1st place per heat $200.00
2nd place per heat $100.00
All
first and second place winners in each heat will advance to the feature
heat. All first and second place winners will be moved to a designated
area. No one may work on their machine until the final heat winners are
moved to that area. The event coordinators and announcer will notify
participants that they have 30 minutes to work on combine and make repairs
for the final feature heat.
Feature Heat Purse: 1st
place in feature heat $400.00 and trophy
2nd place in feature heat $200.00
3rd place in feature heat $100.00 (if only one Feature
Heat)
Best of Show: 1st place
selected by the audience - $100 & trophy

Fairground Directions:
From Detroit:
Take I-94 West to U.S.127 south. Proceed about 20 miles to U.S. 12 west.
Take U.S. 12 west 16 miles to Jonesville. Continue through Jonesville and
turn left onto south M-99. Take M-99 through Hillsdale, pass the
fairgrounds on your left and then turn left on Steamburg Road. Enter the
fairgrounds at Gate 6 on Steamburg Road.
From Toledo:
Take I 80/90 to Ohio State Route 15 (Exit 13) and proceed north. The road
will change to M 99 at the Michigan border. Continue north to a flashing
light at M 99 and M 34 and then turn left on M 99. Continue on M 99 to the
south side of Hillsdale and then turn right on Steamburg Road. Enter the
fairgrounds at Gate 6 on Steamburg Road.
