PONIES

1. Pony Halter Classes judged on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9:00 a.m. The order of judging will follow the premium listing starting with Section 112.
2. Entries close when stalls are filled, but not later than August 29th.
3. All animals must be in place for showing by Sunday, September 21st at Noon.
4. Stall Fee, single $2.00, double $3.00, must be sent with entry to be accepted.
5. Entry Fee of $3.00 per head.
6. The Society will not furnish hay or bedding for stock.
7. No animal removed before
10:00 p.m. on closing day of fair.
8. All ponies must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor at the time of making entry.
9. The age of ponies shall be computed from January 1st.
10. No animal can be shown in more than one class except that single entries may also complete in spans, and under saddle.
11. All animals shown must be sound, and free from blemish.
12. No premium will be awarded when the animal is not worthy, even though there may be no other competition.
13. Equine Activity Liability Waiver must be signed by all participants.
14. Must show proof of a negative Coggins test (EIA) within the current calendar year. Calendar year is defined as Dec. 1st – 31st of the following Dec. (13 months).

All Equine must test negative to an official Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) test within the current calendar year Dec. 1st – Dec. 31 of the following Dec.), and have paper checked prior to unloading. Refer to the MDA Health Requirements at the beginning of the Premium Book.

1. Draft Horse Judging on Thursday, September 25th at 9:00 a.m.
2. All animals for showing must be in place by Sunday, September 21st                                                        at Noon. Stalls will be ready Saturday morning, September 20th .      
3. Entry fee of $5.00 per head. Stall fee of $3.00 single, $6.00 double must be sent with entry. The fair reserves the right to limit entries.
4. As soon as our stalls are filled, the
entries will close, but no later than August 29th.
5. All horses entered, except geldings, must be eligible to entry in a recognized Stud book. Exhibitors must be prepared to furnish Certificate of Registry of animals over one year of age.

DAIRY CATTLE

7. All cattle entered must be eligible to registry in a recognized herd book; exhibitors must furnish certificates of registry for all animals over one year of age, and also certificates of transfer when not bred by exhibitor, if requested to do so by the superintendent.
8. Quality of animals and fitness for breeding (meaning neither too fat nor too lean nor showing signs of bareness, with justness of proportion), to be considered, next after establishing purity of blood.
9. All cows, 3 years old or over, shall show signs of producing calf within 9 months.
10. Only one herd shall be shown by the same exhibitor where there is no competition.
11. Animals may be shown for both single and herd premiums.
12. Animals competing for sweepstakes will be allowed to compete for single premiums.
13. First and second place winners qualify to show for Champion and Reserve Champion.
14. If animals and stall are not kept clean and bedded, Premiums may be withheld.
15. Any stall not occupied by livestock may be used for bedding and supplies with approval with Department Superintendent.
16. An Exhibitor is not entitled to draw more than two moneys in any individual class and only one money in group classes.
17. Starting March 1st 2007, all cattle moving to a show, sale, or exhibition are required to have an official radio frequency identification device (RFID) ear tag. Refer to the MDA Health Requirements at the beginning of the Premium Book.

SHEEP

 Entries close when pens are filled, but no later than August 29th.

 Judging – Wednesday, September 24th 9:00 a.m.
3.
 All animals must be in place for showing by Sunday a.m., September 21st.
4. Entry fee of $1.00 per head must be sent with Entry Form.
5. No animals removed before 10:00 p.m. on closing day of fair.
6. All sheep originating from a scabies free state or area must be accompanied by an official health certificate, approved by a state official from the state of origin.
7. All sheep originating from scabies quarantined or eradication state or area must be accompanied by an official health certificate approved by a state official from the state of origin.
8. The Society will furnish no hay or bedding for stock.
9. All sheep must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor at the time of making entry.
10. No animals shall be entered for more than one premium except in flocks.
11. The date for computing the age of sheep is September 1st, except for junior lambs which is January 1st.
12. All sheep entered must be eligible to registry in a recognized flock book. Exhibitors must be prepared to furnish certificate of registry of all animals over 1 year of age and also certificate of transfer if not bred by exhibitor, if requested to do so by the Superintendent (
Exception: Section 157).
13. All sheep/goats moved within Michigan shall be identified with official USDA scrapie program identification prior to movement off the farm. Contact the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) at (866) 873-2824 for Scrapies Tags.
        a.  USDA Official Scrapie Tag – tagged in either ear. OR
        b.  USDA Official Scrapie Tag number tattooed in the ear, flank, or tail web. If tattooed, the end of the Scrapie tag should be cut off so it can’t be reused. The cut Scrapie tag must be carried with the goat whenever it is moved. OR
        c. USDA approved breed association registry tattoo. The breed registration certificate, which include the tattoo characters, must accompany the goat when moved.
            USDA approved breed association include: the American Boer Goat Association, the American Dairy Goat Association, the American Goat Society, the Cashmere Goat Registry, the International Boer Goat Association, the International Fainting goat Association, the National Pygmy Goat Association, the Nigerian Dwarf Goat Association, the Pedigree International, and the Pygora Breeders Association. OR
        d. Pygmy goats registered with the National Pygmy Goat Association (NPGA) can use the NPGA microchips. They must carry the NPGA registration certificate with the goat when moved. Owners using this ID are required to provide a microchip reader. OR
        e. Sheep that are part of the USDA Scrapie Flock Certification Program can use the Scrapie Flock Certification Program tag. OR
        f. Sheep that are part of the USDA Scrapie Flock Certification Program can tattoo the number from the USDA Scrapie Flock Certification Program tag in the ear or flank. If tattooed, the tag must be carried with the animal whenever it is moved.
14. Whether Type Breeding Sheep are limited to entries in Section 157 ONLY.
An exhibitor is not entitled to draw more than two moneys in any one class and only one money in group classes.

SWINE

        Michigan Department of Agriculture has implemented new requirements for swine exhibition at County and State fairs. Open Class swine will NOT be offered this year in the Open Class.  

GOATS
Superintendent –Leland Wigent
1. Entries close when pens are filled, but no later than August 29th.
2. All goats must check-in on
Sunday, September 21st between 9:00 a.m. – Noon. All goats must present registration papers prior to unloading Other arrangements must be approved by the Superintendent.   
3. Judging – Friday, September 26th at 9:00 a.m.
4. Entry Fee of $1.00 per head must be sent with the Entry Form.
5. Goats will not be released before 10:00 p.m. on closing day of the fair.
6. No more than two goats may be entered in each class, under the same exhibitor.
7. If youth enter open classes, the open class fees must also be paid.
8. The exhibitor is responsible for keeping the exhibit area clean at all times.
9. Milk disposal is permitted in the Dairy Barn ONLY. Further information will be available at check-in.
10. The exhibitor must supply own feed and bedding.
11. All goats must be the property of the exhibitor at the time of entry.
12. Overcrowding will not be allowed.
13. No bucks will be allowed.
14. Goats are to be free of horns or scurs longer than ½ inch, unless otherwise specified for that breed’s standards.
15. All goats for exhibition must be free of symptoms of infectious/contagious disease. Any goat exhibiting symptoms will not be allowed to unload and must be removed from the grounds.
16. All goats are subject to inspection by the Superintendent(s) and/or Veterinarian.
17. Absolutely no drugs or medication are to be given to goats at the fair without the Superintendent’s permission.
18. 
All goats moved within Michigan shall be identified with official USDA scrapie program identification prior to movement off the farm. For USDA scrapie identification guidelines refer to rules in Sheep section, Open Class.
19. Payment of Premiums will be mailed to the Exhibitor. Refer to the Rules & Regulations in the beginning of the book.
20. A decision as to how many individuals or farms exhibiting shall be left in the hands of the Superintendent of the department and his or her decision shall be final.
